Dr. Jamie L. Wilson, Jr. is a recognized as a dynamic Human Resource executive with over
three decades of professional experience in diverse sectors including business, education,
medical, and retail. His professional journey showcases a vast range of roles that
progressively increased in scope and responsibility, evolving from educational positions
such as a substitute teacher and principal to strategic roles including human resources
director and chief human resources officer. His leadership in these capacities demonstrates
his exceptional ability to manage large, complex organizations, having directed
comprehensive HR operations for staff sizes ranging from 7,500 to 16,000 employees.
In January 2022, Dr. Wilson embarked on a pivotal role as the Senior Vice President of Human
Resources at Georgia Aquarium. His strategic acumen and profound leadership skills were
soon recognized, leading to his promotion to Chief People Officer in October 2023. This role
marked a significant capstone in his career, following his retirement as the Chief Human
Resources Officer for Clayton County Public Schools in 2021. In the role of Chief People
Officer, Dr. Wilson has been instrumental in driving strategic initiatives that align with and
bolster the Aquarium’s mission to provide the world's most engaging aquatic experience. He
oversees the development and implementation of policies that foster growth and employee
development and satisfaction, including competitive compensation, benefits, performance
appraisals, and incentive programs.
Dr. Wilson’s academic credentials are equally impressive, holding a Doctorate in Leadership
and Supervision from the University of Sarasota, an Educational Specialist in Leadership and
Supervision Degree from both the University of Sarasota and Jacksonville State University
and a Master of Education in Leadership and Supervision from State University of West
Georgia, respectively, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State
University. His commitment to education extends beyond his own learning; he has spent
many years teaching leadership and human resources courses at the collegiate level,
impacting the next generation of education and HR professionals.
His leadership influence is recognized beyond the confines of the workplace. Dr. Wilson is
an esteemed alumnus of Leadership DeKalb and the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in
Education. He actively contributes to his community and professional field by serving on
several boards and community organizations, in roles such as Chair of Education and
Human Resources Committees, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Coalition Bowl, Vice
Chair for C5 Georgia, and Board Member for several Advisory Boards for local colleges and
universities.
